Save the Amazon- one person at a time. BuckSchmidt.com |
|
On the 28th of February 2001, Buck and Luciene moved to the Amazon Basin of Brazil. We lived in Macapá, right on the equator.
Why would a web designer give up his career and take his family from their comfortable life in Columbus, Ohio, USA, to live on the Amazon River? We came with a vision to save the Amazon, to tell people about Jesus, and plant a Vineyard church. We have planted a church, and we are turning it over to the national leaders, heading back to the States in Sept. 2009. ![]() |

Here is the new church building in Novo Horizonte. God has been blessing us, thanks to everyone that has prayed for us! (0) comments I just realized that I had never put up photos of the roof. I ran out yesterday, as the sky got dark, and snapped some photos right before the rain fell. It is so nice being dry, as the tropical rain pounded down all around. It is kind of hard to see the roof from the ground, I will try to get one of the neighbors let me take photos from their second floor, to see if that will make it more visible. This is from the ground level, looking up at the second floor. This is from in front of the house. (0) comments I have had some connection problems again, and have gotten behind on posting, so here are some catching up posts from the last couple of weeks. Here is Luciene and Josely with some of the kids at church this past Sunday. We didn't do much for Luciene on her birthday on Monday the 22nd, we surprised her at our kinship on Wednesday. Nicolas plays with his birthday ball, as Josiah looks on. The kids were all playing together, after putting Nicolas in a plastic shopping cart. Nicolas turned one year old on May 23rd, Luciene made a wonderful cake. Can I touch that? Nicolas doesn't know yet how to blow out a candle, so he was just going to snuff it out with his finger. We had a mother's day party at the church. Each mother paraded around to enthusiastic cheers. Happy Mother's Day! Luciene and Maria, a woman who accepted Christ in our church. Nicolas and Josiah. Nicolas is usually very happy. Hannah and Raquel have been studying the keyboard with Robson, a good friend of ours who is an awesome musician. We don't have a keyboard for them to practice on so progress has been slow, but they are really enjoying it so far. Josiah likes to check out the classes too. (0) comments Thursday, May 18, 2006
I just performed my first wedding as a pastor. I was really nervous, and man did I ever sweat a lot. Ronilson and Rafaela got married on the 6th of May. Ronilson accepted Christ at our camp in February, and is an excited new Christian. Here is Ronilson and Rafaela with Richelly and Josely, Rafaela's sisters. Pastor Eduardo and Luciene with the newly married couple. We recently sent a couple of our members to a training by APEC, to train them in how to better give classes to the kids, how to sing songs, tell interesting stories, and tell kids about Jesus. We have really felt the need to invest in the kids ministry. This is Celi, another new Christian that accepted Christ at the camp. We just rented a building in Novo Horizonte, and are moving the congregation there. Over 50 of our people are from there, and with the cost of rent and transportation factored in, it will cost less than a third of what we are paying now. We had a work day to get the new building ready, and there were so many people there to help that the problem was in having enough material, sandpaper and paint brushes. The kids were fighting over the paint brushes! It was so great to see the enthusiasm in wanting to help, and the joy they feel to finally have a church that is close to them, instead of 18 Kilometers (11.19 miles) away. This is one more photo of the Projeto Calçada training that I forgot to put on the last post. (0) comments Projeto Calçado, Missão SGM no Brasil Luciene recently did a great training by Projeto Calçado (Pavemnt Project), a ministry of Missão SGM no Brasil. The intensive training was how to work with at risk kids, and counseling kids. She really liked it, and learned a lot. Here is the class, with the instructors.
