Save the Amazon- one person at a time. BuckSchmidt.com

On the 28th of February 2001, Buck and Luciene moved to the Amazon Basin of Brazil. We lived in Macapá, right on the equator. Why would a web designer give up his career and take his family from their comfortable life in Columbus, Ohio, USA, to live on the Amazon River? We came with a vision to save the Amazon, to tell people about Jesus, and plant a Vineyard church. We have planted a church, and we are turning it over to the national leaders, heading back to the States in Sept. 2009.

My kids teach me so much about God, and His love for us. The other day, Josiah was standing there in his underwear, just watching me. He had taken his shower earlier, but had not yet gotten dressed, which is kind of unusual for him. He is pretty particular about his clothes and usually likes to get his clothes on right away.

He watched me as I started putting on my clothes. As soon as he saw what shorts I had chosen, and what shirt I had chosen, he went right to his drawer and searched through his clothes until he found a shirt and some shorts that were like what I had. “These shorts are just like yours Daddy,” he said.

Of course my little heart just went pitter-patter. My son, he wanted to be just like me. He was imitating his Daddy. But it also struck me how much spiritual parallel there was also. How it must please the heart of God when we, His children, wait patiently on Him, waiting in expectation until we see what our Father is doing, and then going and doing the same. How it must please our Daddy when we want to be just like Him, to see us imitate Him, to try to be like Him. How God must smile, and His heart go pitter-patter, when He sees an image of Himself in us, and when we can say, “This is just like you Daddy.”
