Save the Amazon- one person at a time. BuckSchmidt.com

On the 28th of February 2001, Buck and Luciene moved to the Amazon Basin of Brazil. We lived in Macapá, right on the equator. Why would a web designer give up his career and take his family from their comfortable life in Columbus, Ohio, USA, to live on the Amazon River? We came with a vision to save the Amazon, to tell people about Jesus, and plant a Vineyard church. We have planted a church, and we are turning it over to the national leaders, heading back to the States in Sept. 2009.

We have long used a Davnor water filter that we bought from Canada, the last time that we were in the United States. Greg Staub and his family have been working on the water filters, and we recently had the opportunity to help place one at our worship leaders house (Elizeu, pictured below, and Kaylas) house, and one at the church. This is such a great ministry, giving a clean cup of water in Jesus' name. We are so happy to be able to be a part of providing clean water, and through that, better health. A big thanks to the Staubs, Davnor water filters, and Living Stones Fellowship for this blessing.

Elizeu looks on as Greg hauls the water filter into his house. Those things are heavy!

Greg is pouring in the sand and gravel with Elizeu's help.

These kids look like they are wondering what in the world those strange Americans are doing.

There have been three babies born in just the last 5 weeks to people in our little Vineyard church plant. First, Adamar and Socorro had a baby boy, then on the 20th of May Mike and Rachel Trengrove had a girl, Esther May, and then on the 23rd, Luciene and I had our baby boy Nicolas Joseph.

Mike called me a little after midnight to tell me that the baby had been born, and I got the priviledge to run right over and take some pictures of them, and of baby .

I recently had the opportunity to take a trip to the interior. I went with Mike Trengrove, and Greg and John Staub. There was a lot of beautiful scenery, like this river scene.

Here are some canoes on the road from Calçoene to the ocean, a beautiful drive.

The road was full of mud and potholes, as you can see by the car. Suddenly it is no longer silver, it has become a brown car. It was totally covered in mud. Pictured are Greg Staub, Buck Schmidt, and Mike Trengrove.

Here is the mechanic, trying to find out what was making that loud screeching noise. It turned out to be a little rock wedged in the brake pad.

These are some kind of parts of fish, that are sent overseas for export, mainly to asian markets.

This was a really eerie church. There is a buzzard on top of the cross.

I'm finally able to upload some photos, here are some from the church on Mother's Day 2005.

Here is Josiah, saying, "Mom, I love you." And everyone said, "Ahhh".

The kids gave a special presentation.

We have good news of great joy! Our new baby, Nicolas Joseph Costa Schmidt was born this morning, the 23rd of May, at 7 AM, the day after Luciene’s birthday. He was 3 kilos, 180 grams.

Thanks for your prayers, please continue to pray for baby and mommy, that the baby would get the breastfeeding thing quickly, and for the health of baby Nicolas and Luciene.

Nicolas, minutes old.

Little baby Nicolas, minutes after he was born on the 23rd of May, 2005, at 7 a.m.

I had some computer problems for a couple of weeks, but looks like I am back in business, and back online. I have 315 e-mails to download, so I apologize if a reply is delayed. I will try to get back to everyone as I can.
